Weeke Bohrsysteme GmbH and Altendorf America Division of Stiles Machinery Inc., are pleased to present the Vantage Series of CNC routing machines. Vantage is a new high performance concept in Nested Based Manufacturing. The Vantage Machines are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Weeke’s ISO-9001 certified facility in Herzebrock, Germany. Vantage is designed and built for the world market using a combination of proven market intelligence from the United States and successful machine design and construction concepts and methods that Weeke has refined over their 60 year history. Components not built under the Weeke roof are purchased from high quality suppliers of world class industrial components.
Vantage 33 Core Technology:
Machine Bed with S/C Tech® Inside
Construction with S/C Tech®
The Vantage 33 CNC Routers incorporate a vibration and impulse damping technology that combines welded steel I-beam construction with a cast composite core. The basic shape and strength of the machine comes from the steel main structure. The composite core provides vibration damping characteristics similar to those of gray cast iron. The rapid dissipation of induced and resonant vibrations assures high quality machining of parts, improved tool life and extended machine life.
High Acceleration with S/C Tech®
The most important aspect of S/C Tech® is the high performance that may be achieved with the Vantage 33. The Vantage 33 acceleration rates are up to 7 times faster than those of other machines. High speeds and high acceleration rates induce large stresses on a machine. S/C Tech® permits the Vantage 33 to operate more quickly, efficiently and reliably than others in its class.
High Performance with S/C Tech®
High acceleration rates are very important in extending tool life and achieving consistent cut quality at high machining speeds. The faster a machine accelerates, the sooner the tool is operating at its rated feedrate and RPM. Long acceleration times translate into more friction between the tool and the machined material. This friction quickly wears out tooling.
Features molded into the S/C Tech® composite core enhance air flow and efficiency of the vacuum hold-down system. Solid vacuum holding power is important for accurate machining of parts and minimization of scrap.
S/C Tech® Means “State-of-the-art” Machine Design
The Vantage 33 combines state-of-the-art machine design, construction and control technologies to take Nested Based Manufacturing to a new level of productivity for the small shop.
Vantage 33 Configuration:
Working Table
The Vantage 33 provides a work table size of 49”x 122”. This permits easy loading of 4x8 or 4x10 panels. Mechanical stops on the front left and right of the machine permit accurate location of small parts.
The worktable surface is a machined grid or matrix that is produced directly on the Vantage 33 at the Weeke factory. This table is produced at the accuracy of the machine and fixtures may be repeatably and reliably removed and repositioned on the worktable.
Parts Location
The Vantage 33 is equipped with left and right side manual mechanical reference stops for easy location and referencing of raw material. Loading full sheets is simply a matter of loading the sheet in alignment with the machine table since the factory edge of most raw material will typically be machined away.
Bridge
The Vantage 33 bridge is a built-up weldment with engineered-in internal support plates with superior, rigid support for Weeke’s innovative and flexible machining head design. The bridge is driven by a pair of servomotors and hardened helical gears on a pair of helical tracks and linear guides that provide maximum thrust and eliminate the effects of backlash. The pair of servo motors is precisely and continuously synchronized through the motion control software in the Vantage 33 control system.
Routing System
The Vantage 33 is fitted with a low maintenance 7.5kW electrospindle with ceramic bearings. The tooling interface on the electrospindle is HSK-F63 standard. The spindle is cooled with forced air from an independent electric fan.
Automatic Tool Changing
An 8-position tool magazine (a 9th position is a standby position for the main spindle) is located at the rightmost end of the machine. Tools of up to 135mm in diameter may be accommodated by the system. Tool change times are from 8 to 12 seconds from chip-to-chip depending upon the machine condition at tool change time.
Drilling System
The Vantage 33 incorporates Weeke’s unique 7500 RPM drilling block with integrated locking mechanism. Weeke’s patented locking mechanism assures drilling depth even in dense or inconsistent materials. The boring gear box is driven by a frequency controlled 2.7 kW motor which provides programmable drilling spindle speeds of 1500 to 7500 RPM to accommodate varieties of materials and boring bits.
The drilling head on the Vantage 33 contains seven (7) vertical drilling spindles on 32mm centers for line drilling and drilling for other hardware.
Vacuum System
A 300 cuM/Hr vacuum pump from Becker is included with the Vantage 33. This pump has proved to be a reliable component of the Weeke machines and provides a high degree of flexibility for a variety of material types. The pump is wired directly to the main machine power cabinet eliminating the need for separate electrical disconnect.
NOTE: The Vantage 33 is not fitted with spoilboard material from the factory. Spoilboards are consumables that must be acquired from local sources. Low density fiber board (LDF) with 24 to 28 lb./cu. ft. densities are very effective as spoilboard materials.
High Flow Dust Collection System
The machining head uses a large capacity dust collection hood. The hood dramatically reduces the amount of dust remaining in the work area. Manually positioned air jets near the main spindle serve to disturb dust so that it may be drawn up into the dust collection system.
Hand Remote Unit
The Vantage Machines include an easy-to-use hand unit that permits the operator to control feed speeds during parts machining. The unit may also be used to position the machine in manual mode.
Machine Protection
Weeke’s attention to detail is evident in their selection of components and machine preserving features. Weeke incorporates guide-way covers on all linear guides so that abrasive materials will not prematurely damage bearings. This is especially important when machining solid surface or MDF materials.
All cable tracks are fully enclosed to prevent damage from impact or wedged scrap.
Safety System
The Vantage 33 includes Weeke’s light barrier system with full safety fence surrounding the machine. Weeke adheres strictly to CE norms to protect the machine operator.
Control System
Weeke has teamed-up with a leader in the PC-based industrial controls sector, Beckhoff GmbH. Beckhoff has specialized in distributed controls, industrial controls and software based on industry standard PC-hardware and operating systems. The Beckhoff control is a software system that runs under the Windows XP-Embedded platform. This means that machine control strategies not possible with traditional controllers may be achieved easily with the Beckhoff architecture. The Beckhoff control communicates via fiber-optic cables to SERCOS (international standard for high precision motion control) axis drives from Rexroth/Indramat and distributed I/O components from Beckhoff. Significant gains in performance and user friendliness have been direct results of the strong partnership between Weeke, Beckhoff and Rexroth/Indramat.
Software
The well known and respected components programming software, WoodWOP, has set the bar for shopfloor parts programming. Weeke machining centers include the latest WoodWOP 5.0 which smoothly integrates with Weeke’s Machine Control Center (MCC) user interface software.
Information that is critical to the operation of the Weeke machining center is present on the machine’s crisp flat panel display. Programmers and operators will find the Weeke Vantage Machines to be some of the easiest machines to use day-to-day.
Barcode reading is directly supported by MCC. Barcode scanned labels on parts eliminate guesswork from any production facility. Barcode labels provide other downstream benefits in the manufacturing facility as well as at the time of product delivery and installation.
Compatibility
Stiles Machinery Inc. has been working in concert with the suppliers of third party software packages to assure compatibility between their systems and Weeke CNC Machines. Many of today’s software packages directly output WoodWOP native programs. This means that integration between the third party software and the Weeke machines is a smooth path that gets shops into production quickly.
In cases where the third party software does not directly export WoodWOP native programs, the Vantage 33 CNC Router includes a DXF translator that takes CAD/CAM system output and converts it into the native WoodWOP format. To be compatible, the CAD/CAM system must output a DXF file that permits layer naming (consult with your Altendorf America sales representative or your software supplier for details).

Tool Length Control (VKNO-6531)
This machine is specially fitted with Weeke’s automatic Tool Length Control Package.
The Tool Length Control (TLC) is a quick, easy, accurate means of gathering and recording length data from pointed or cylindrical routing tools. The TLC is attached to the base of the Vantage 33 near the tool changing magazine. When new tools are placed in the tool changing magazine, the Vantage 33 loads the tool into the main spindle and touches the probe. Data gathered about the tool length will be automatically inserted into the tool database for that tool so that the task of punching in numbers for tool length is eliminated - no more errors while punching in tool length data.
